Lucile London Guide

Thank god it’s Friday but stuck for ideas on what to do this summer weekend? Well never fear this month is the time of graduate art shows and exhibitions and we here at Lucile have created a couple of style guides for a weekend in London and all the graduate exhibitions!

Rossetti Gardens

Firstly the fresh look of the Spring Summer collection Rossetti Garden’s. The lightness of the duck egg blue makes this outfit an easy yet elegant pairing, with a black vest jacket for a creative edge.

The finest attention to detail is paid throughout this collection, from the beautiful tie back of the baby doll to the precise fit of the Lucile signature balcony bra. Stunning, yet subtle in Duck Egg blue, the lace has been hand dyed exclusively for this gorgeous collection.

Rue De Penthievre

Next is the luxurious hand cut gold lace collection 11 Rue De Penthievre. This collection has more of a structured look to it, so has been paired with a tailored edge and gold detailed accessories.

11 Rue De Penthievre, inspired by Lady Duff Gordon's infamous couture house in Paris, adhere's to her romantic ideals and passion for femininity using the softest silks combined with extravagant gold lace. The collection celebrates beauty, seductiveness and pleasure.

There are so many University Graduate Art shows on this month. It’s hard to just pick one! However we have chosen the Goldsmiths University of London Department of Art Exhibition for an eclectic choice of work and experience. Exhibiting this weekend from Friday 20 June – Monday 23 June 2014 10am – 7pm (except Sunday 22 June 2014: 10am – 4pm).

Smoke: A Short Film

Earlier this year, a famous production team in Hollywood approached Lucile, much to our excitement, we were told our luxury lingerie and nightwear had been selected to be included in a special project they were filming. This top-secret film was to be entered into international film festivals, including the glamourous Cannes and super cool, Berlin.

Our samples were carefully wrapped, and delivered to Los Angeles to begin filming, and we eagerly waited the outcome…

With the release of the film imminent, we are pleased to announce the short film – “Smoke.” Starring the beautiful and talented, Izumi Bogen alongside the handsome Chris Tardio, who's previously starred in Analyse That and In The Mix – a dark tale of a writer, typing the tale of the death of her husband, blurring the lines between what is fiction and what is reality, it is left with the audience to guess.

The gorgeous Izumi is wearing a number of pieces across our collections, including the Rue De Penthievre Plunge Bra, Knicker and Suspender Belt, our much loved Georgette gown and our stunning Odalisque collection.

Here are a few stills of this much-anticipated release; we can’t for you to see the full feature.

A Lucile History

The history of Lingerie is truly feminine and liberating, of which we can take for granted now. Lucile’s heritage travels as far back as the early 1900’s, Lady Duff Gordon crafted her revolutionary designs into a world famous couture brand with boutiques in New York, Paris, Chicago and the flagship “Masion Lucile” in Hanover Square, London.

Known especially for her scandalous lingerie, Lady Duff Gordon was one of the first to design unrestrictive undergarments, freeing women of binding corsets and wired underskirts. Royalty, nobility and film starts such as the Queen of Spain, Lily Elsie and the Duchess of Warwick flocked to her stores to visit her famous “Rose Rooms,” to choose lace, silk and ribbon adorned creations along with exotic perfumes and gifts.

An “It Girl,” of the Belle Epoque era, her designs challenged and changed not only the fashion industry, but also how women looked and felt about themselves. She loved and appreciated the female form, and understood how to drape beautiful fabrics to create sumptuously feminine silhouettes. She spent hours, even days with her exclusive clientele before designing a “personality dress,” which reflected the woman who wore it perfectly.

Our director Camilla grew up surrounded by her great great grandmothers stunning designs, but it was an invitation to the V&A museum in London in 2006 to see the full Lucile collection which sparked Camilla’s passion and a sense of pride for this iconic brand. Camilla fell in love with the way Lady Duff Gordon made women look and feel, her passion for femininity, her ability to capture the essence of the female soul and her fearless nature, she was unafraid of shocking her audiences with sheer, alluring lingerie. It was these qualities that Camilla shared with her grandmother, and these passions which inspired Camilla to revive and re-enchant the world with Lucile.

Many of Lucile’s current collections are inspired by their past collections, such as ‘The Duchess of Warwick’ line from the AW13 collection. Named after one of Lucile's most glamourous clients of the early 20th century. Famously, this glamourous woman requested all of Lucile's black silk negligee's to match her boudoir drapes and sheets.

The Duchess of Warwick

From the 3rd of June to the 15th of November at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York an exhibition on the History of Lingerie will be taking place. Documenting the transgressions through the era’s, from the days of the corsets to our modern day bras.

Lucile Lowdown: Cannes

This Wednesday we saw the first day of the 67th annual Cannes Film festival. And here at Lucile we have picked our three best dressed of the prestigious event!

best dresssed

As it’s only been the first day, there is so much more to come, yet the attendees pulled out all the stops for the red carpet and these are our three favourites.

Firstly, we have Blake Lively in this burgundy red Gucci Dress, we love the structured halter neck and side opening. So classy and elegant! Next is Spanish actress Paz Vega, wearing Zuhair Murad. This sleek blue tailored dress is stunningly feminine with the dip and curve of the V-neck. Finally we chose Zoe Saldana and this white pleated dress by Victoria Beckham. The soft white colour is perfect for the French sunshine.

The historical French Rivera city and its sites have so much to offer, and anyone would love a getaway break to the city (we know we would!)

Here is our style guide for a day in super chic and stylish Cannes and tips on what to visit.

Cannes Style Guide

Inspired by the Cannes Festival Film release of the Grace Kelly biopic, we have gone for an elegant 1950’s look. Using the softness of the ‘Shortness of Time’ collection and pairing the lingerie with equally fresh colours, yet matching a couple black accessories to give it a bit of structure. This ‘Shortness of Time’ style guide is a perfect day look for viewing the city!

Stuck for ideas on what to visit in the beautiful city? Then we here at Lucile would highly recommend the infamous Parfumerie Galimard! The historical perfume shop is awash with luxurious scents, of which you can concoct your own, and have a tour and lesson on the history of the Parfumerie.
